Wood & Plywood CNC Routing
Wood and plywood routing supports flat components, templates, fixtures, and selected three-dimensional relief work. Share the material and design intent so the part, surface detail, and workholding can be reviewed together.
Flat components and repeat profiles
Panels, inserts, assembly templates, and furniture-related components start with defined outlines and joint locations. Provide actual thickness requirements and mating geometry for slot or tab fits. A repeated digital profile helps consistency, but natural stock variation still affects the finished part.
Relief work needs a depth definition
A three-dimensional relief is a surface with changing height, rather than simply an engraved outline. Share a model or height reference, the desired maximum depth, and which details matter. Small valleys and sharp internal corners may be softened by tool diameter; steep surfaces and fragile detail need review.
Grain, veneers, and stock condition
Solid wood moves with moisture and can cut differently along and across the grain. Plywood veneer thickness, glue layers, voids, and surface grade affect edge quality and breakout. Identify a face that must remain cosmetic and whether both sides need machining.
Edges, assembly, and finishing
Inside corners retain a tool radius. Dog-bone relief or a mating-part change can help assembled joints. Specify whether edges should remain as machined or need a separately reviewed treatment. Finish, sanding, coating, and assembly are not assumed to be included in a routing price.
A complete routing inquiry
Send DXF or CAD links for flat parts and a model for relief work, plus a dimensioned drawing, material and grade, quantity, thickness, critical fits, grain direction, and desired timing. Include an image reference for appearance while making the dimensional requirements explicit.
Common questions
Can an image alone define a relief?
An image can show intent, but it may not define reliable depth or geometry. Share the model or discuss what design preparation is needed.
Will plywood edges be free of voids?
Internal construction varies with grade and stock. Discuss visible edges and material expectations before quoting.
